The 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal with coach Manuel Pellegrini’s side and becomes the second most expensive British player ever, only behind Welshman Gareth Bale.
The fee involved in the transfer is reportedly over £49m plus add-ons. Sterling has been handed the No. 7 shirt at his new club.
Pellegrini has described Sterling as “one of the best attacking players in world football.”
He said: “He is a young player with outstanding ability, and I am sure the Manchester City fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team.”
The England international was under contract at Liverpool until 2017, but turned down a £100,000 per week deal to pave way for his departure, which had not gone down well with many of the Reds’ former players, including former captain Steven Gerard. Brendan Rodgers’ men had rejected two bids from City in June.
Sterling joined QPR in winter 2010 for an initial fee of £600,000, and the R’s will receive 20% of the money paid by City.
City will pay an initial £44m and up to £5m during the course of the deal.
