5 Tips For Healthier Sleep

Sleeping
Have you been feeling lethargic recently? Do you struggle to stay focused during the day? Is dragging yourself out of bed each morning a chore? Poor quality sleep can be detrimental to your health both physically and mentally, so try these 5 steps for a restful night and improved health.

Get a solid 7 to 9 hours sleep each night
The majority of adults over 18 require between 7 and 9 hours sleep each night according to a professional sleep study undertaken by the National Sleep Foundation. If you tend to run on less than 6 hours, it’s likely that you’ll find yourself feeling lethargic and rundown throughout the day.
Equally, if you sleep for longer than the recommended 7 to 9 hours you could feel just as lousy since too much sleep has an impact on our bodies too. Don’t be tempted to make up for lack of sleep with a marathon 12 hour snooze; it will mess up your sleep pattern and leave you feeling groggy. Aim for around 8 hours every night.
Plan a sleep schedule and stick to it
Late nights and early starts can leave us feeling lousy, but even worse is an erratic sleep pattern with bedtimes and rise times differing from day to day. You should aim to go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day as much as you possibly can. Once you get into a routine your body will get adjust to it; you’ll fall asleep faster and won’t struggle to get up in a morning.
There are a number great ways to get into a successful sleep schedule; ban the snooze b*tton on a morning, avoid nightlights, smartphones and other sources of unnatural light close to bedtime, and above all else, be consistent.
Don’t eat right before bed
There’s an old myth that eating just before bed leads to increased weight gain, but whilst this isn’t true there are plenty of other reasons why you should avoid eating just before bed. You run the risk of heartburn and acid reflux which can affect the quality of your sleep and cause sleep apnea. Plus, there have even been studies to suggest that eating just before bed can increase your risk of stroke. Aim to eat at least 1 hour before bed, preferably 2 or 3, to minimize the risk.
Choose a high quality mattress
You may believe you sleep soundly, but a mattress which doesn’t support your body correctly can cause you to toss and turn each night and prevent you from becoming fully rested. A hard, lumpy mattress could trigger pressure points as you sleep, whilst a mattress which is too soft can often cause chronic back pain.
If you’ve been feeling lethargic recently it could be time to invest in a new mattress. Spend time researching various mattress types and testing a few out to find out which mattress is right for you. It’s a big investment and it needs to be just right if you’re to improve your sleep quality.
Find a way to wind down
Feeling overstimulated before bed can make it difficult to drift off and prevent your body from feeling fully rested. In order to avoid this and get a healthier sleep, you must relax your body in preparation for sleep by finding a routine to help you wind down. Unnatural light from televisions, phones and tablets can overstimulate the brain, so although watching a movie or checking out Facebook might feel like you’re unwinding, it could be doing the opposite. Try reading a book or newspaper, listening to relaxing music or meditating instead.
No matter how much trouble you have getting a good night’s sleep, implementing a few or all of these tips could help you get the rest you need to stay healthy and happy. You’ll be amazed at what a healthy sleep pattern can do for your physical and mental wellbeing.

7 Simple Health Hacks For Your Busy Schedule

Seven days of changes to your routine may seem difficult, but these little switches easily fit into your daily schedule. Try starting with one fix a day, then continuing that habit all through the week. By the end of 7 days, you’ll have picked up 7 healthy changes to your routine. Keep things up for a few weeks to make it a habit and maybe tackle a new set of challenges

Monday Mentality
Having positive thoughts can work wonders on your health. Research has shown that being optimistic boosts your immunity and increases your ability to cope with stress. Do yourself a favor and try thinking positively this week as you try the other 6 little fixes.
Take Ten Tuesday
Break up your afternoon routine by giving yourself 10, whether it’s 10 minutes or ten reps. Try sneaking in 10 jumping jacks while running around. Instead of sitting at your desk, answer a co-worker’s email in person or take ten minutes to walk (not drive) to lunch.
Wet n’ Wild Wednesday
Make Wednesdays a bit wild by drinking more water. Don’t believe me? As it turns out dehydration has some unexpected symptoms (like bad breath and cravings). Sipping more water can clear your afternoon of breath mints and vending machine trips; leaving more time to liven up your day. You never know, this free time could make room for that afternoon salsa dancing class — or more “me time.”
Having trouble making the switch from sugary drinks to water? Mix things up by sipping a tall glass of infused water. Just add cucumbers and mint or find other combinations you love. Anything to make Wednesdays not so “middle of the week,” right?
Thursday Tutorials
Though this little trick won’t give you more than 24 hours in a day, it will probably feel like you’ve stashed away some extra time. We all know the benefits of exercise, but it can be tough to make time in your schedule or pocketbook for a class. But taking the time to get yourself to the gym isn’t necessary if you YouTube your workout. There are tons of free tutorials you can stream right there in your living room.
Along with eliminating all travel time, having a video workout allows you to try something new without feeling intimidated in a class full of experts. You can also pause your sun salutation for emergencies or break up the video into segments to fit in with your crazy schedule.
Ferment your Friday
Amp up your mental health with something fermented. Not only are probiotics good for regulating the millions of bacteria living inside of you, studies report some mental health bonuses from fermented foods. Research shows that those who regularly eat foods like yogurt, kimchi, kefir and kombucha reported experiencing less social anxiety than those who didn’t. Conquering your fear of public speaking never tasted so good.
Saturday Snacking
This 7-item list is about making little changes, not drastic life-altering changes. Snacking is a great way to make little adjustments for a healthier you. Try taking things a step at a time; eliminate artificial sweeteners for a week, or dip vegetables into hummus instead of a mayonnaise-based dip. For something sweeter, try freezing a fruit-filled smoothie into popsicle molds instead of having ice cream.
You don’t have to give up your snacking habit, but snacking on fruit instead of candy or roasted chickpeas instead of chips will make your snacks more than just empty calories.
Sunday Side-up
Salads are a no-brainer for a veggie filled lunch or dinner. But are you really getting everything you can out of your salad? Maximize nutrients by adding an egg. Researchers have found that eating a cooked egg with raw, colorful vegetables (found in your salad) helps your body absorb more of the nutrients found in the greens.
But be careful: Don’t counteract your healthy week by overdoing it on the salad dressing. Try using the oozy yolk of a poached egg as a faux dressing. Not only will it amp up your nutrient level it also adds more protein to your meal.
Can seven days make a difference in the quality of your life? Absolutely! By focusing on one day at a time, you are one week away from a richer, fuller life.

8 Important Things Your Husband DESPERATELY Wants You To Know

how-to-be-a-good-wife1
Love, a fellow husband.
As a husband, I’ve often been perplexed by my wife and the wives of other husbands who get so angry at their husbands actions, but don’t take the time to understand the actions.

It would lead to much stronger, cohesive marriages, but most of time this never gets done because the husband has a hard time clearly articulating his feelings, or when he does, his wife still can’t understand it. Well, without giving up my man card, I have found a woman who truly has taken the time to really understand what are men are thinking.
Shaunti Feldhahn, social researcher and author of For Women Only, has unpacked the minds of hundreds of men who can serve as a cheat sheet to your husband’s thoughts. Here’s what she found:
1. Men equate love with respect.
You may wonder how that’s possible, but according to Feldhahn’s study, men usually equate the two.
2. On the outside your husband may look like a strong man, but on the inside he feels like a scared little boy.
Most men have an inner vulnerability based on competing core needs and fears, and they do their best to keep it hidden.
3. If you “bring home the bacon” and fry it up in a pan, it will still bother him a little.
Most men don’t just want to provide for their wife and families, it’s a pressing NEED.
4. Sometimes your husband needs to retreat before he can engage.
Men, based on the wiring of their brain, just have a different way of addressing issues.
5. Lack of s*x can also cause a lack of confidence.
Your man not only wants s*x, he wants you to want it too. His confidence depends on it.
6. Men — even the happily married ones — struggle with the images of other women.
Men are usually hardwired to view images of attractive women, and it has little to do with his love for you.
7. Men ARE romantic … they just have a different way of showing it.
Because of these differences, a man often won’t take action to ensure he fulfills your needs because he feels like he doesn’t know how.
8. Husbands won’t care if you gain a little weight, as long as you continue to work at looking and feeling good.
He’ll never admit it, but, in his mind, taking care of your body equates to you caring about him.
Don’t get frustrated about your new findings or drill him about it either. Like a cheat sheet, you must keep this to yourself. (Otherwise, you’ll fail Marriage 101.)
The goal is to gain a greater understanding of your husband’s thoughts. So instead of asking WHY he does what he does, ask HOW you can better support and love him.

If Your Man Does These 5 Things, You’re Being MANIPULATED

hiding-message
The scary thing is: You probably don’t even know it’s happening.

The worst part of being manipulated in a relationship is that quite often you don’t even know it’s happening. Manipulative people twist your thoughts, actions, wants and desires into something that better suits how they see the world and they mold you into someone that serves their own purposes. Scary, right?
Here’s a few biggies to look out for to make sure it’s not happening to you:
1. He makes you feel guilty … for everything.
Manipulation always start with guilt. If he can convince you to feel guilty for your actions (even when you’ve done nothing wrong), then he knows you’ll be more willing to do what he says. “I mean sure, I guess dinner was OK. It wasn’t’t what I was hoping for and I would have rather done something different but I guess as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. I love you and it’s important to me that you are happy, even if that means setting aside what I want.”
See what he did there? How he turned that around you? On the surface, he makes it seem like he’s a loving boyfriend but spoiler alert: guilt is not love. Manipulators also try and make you believe that they’re doing a better job of “loving you,” so that you’ll be more willing to set aside what you want in order to feel like you “love him just as much.” It’s a sick mind game.
2. He forces his insecurities on you.
Manipulators will often force their own insecurities on you in an effort to control how you react towards him. “I’ve been cheated on before and that’s why I don’t want you to have any male friends. You can understand that, right?” Yes, of course you can understand that (and you should be conscious of his insecurities), but his struggles should not define the functionality of your relationship.
“I’m sorry I acted that way but I’m just so scared that you will leave me!” is an excuse that’s often used by manipulators when you point out flaws in his actions. The sheer purpose of that excuse is to take the focus off of your worries and suck you back into this.
There’s a fine line between showing consideration for his feelings and being manipulated into feeling what he wants you to feel. Consideration is shown with love while manipulation is ruled by guilt.
3. He makes you doubt yourself.
Want to know why it’s so easy for him to be manipulated? Because he’s mind-f*cked you to the point where you no longer trust yourself. That’s right, manipulators take your insecurities and use them against you. They consistently point out what you’re doing “wrong” and how they could have done it better.
They point out your weaknesses, then show you that with their help, you can do better, be better. They slowly convince you they have your best interests in mind … but they don’t. They have their best interests in mind. And in order to keep their wants and needs at the forefront of your relationship, they gently twist your thinking until you look to him for guidance on everything.
Once that happens, manipulators can make you basically do whatever they want you to because you now trust them more than you trust yourself.
4. He makes you responsible for his own emotions.
Manipulators are ironic in the sense that they spend quite a bit of time making you feel as if you can’t think for yourself but then turn around and make you responsible for all of their emotions. If they feel sad, it’s probably because you made them feel that way. If they’re angry, well, you had better check yourself because you obviously did something wrong.
For as much as they take away from you and for as much as they make you believe that you’re totally incapable of controlling your own life, they expect you to be responsible for how they feel. INSANE.
5. He makes you believe that you want what he wants.
We all start out relationships with requirements and deal-breakers but it’s natural, as you start to blend two lives, that compromises are made. What’s NOT normal: When you have to completely set aside what you want and need in an effort to appease your partner. If you start to realize your partner’s needs are being met far more often than yours are, you might be married to a manipulator.
Are you giving in to what he wants out of feelings of guilt or because he has made you feel responsible for the way he feels? Have you given up what YOU want because he’s made you believe that you should want something else? If you have answered “yes” to any of those questions, you might want to reconsider the relationship.

Calling Albert Podell ‘well traveled’ would be an understatement. 78-year-old Podell, a former Playboy editor, can truly say that he’s seen it all, after spending half a century visiting every country in the world.Oddity Central has more:

Podell was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age. When he was six he began collecting postage stamps and he remembers always wanting to have at least one stamp from every country in the world. “Getting a passport stamp from every one may have been inspired by that,” he says.
“Those little coloured bits of perforated paper also instilled in me a fascination with travel because I wanted to see the lands where all the objects, people, and places depicted on those stamps came from.”
Traveling to every one of the 196 officially recognized countries hasn’t been easy, especially on an accommodation budget of about $10 per night, and Podell admits he has been through some tough situations, like being unable to prove that he was not CIA to the Cuban secret police or nearly lynched in East Pakistan where he was mistaken for an Indian spy, but this kind of moments only added excitement to his epic journey around the world.

A woman who gave birth alone and was stranded for days in a remote area of northern California says she survived the ordeal by starting a fire that roared out of control and drew firefighters to her rescue. Officials with the Plumas National Forest confirmed that a fire broke out on Saturday (local time) at the park and that firefighters rescued a woman and a newborn baby from the burn area. ABC Newshas more:

They declined to discuss the cause of the fire, saying it was under investigation. Amber Pangborn of Oroville, California, told television station KCRA that after realising she might be going into labour, she drove along a back road to get to her parents’ home for help, only to get lost in a remote part of the forest. “There was no cell phone service, there was nothing. And the car was out of gas,” Ms Pangborn said.
Alone, Ms Pangborn gave birth early last Thursday. She and her newborn child, whom she named Marissa, were then stranded without any provisions except for three apples, a bottle of water and a can of soda. The 35-year-old said she also encountered a swarm of bees and mosquitoes. “I was trying to get them not to sting her, but I got stung,” Ms Pangborn said, referring to her daughter.  Desperate to get help, she started a fire two days later in the hope of attracting attention, and the flames quickly grew.
“The fire just went whoosh and shot up the mountainside. And I was looking at Marissa … and I was like, ‘I think mummy just started a forest fire’.” A helicopter crew responding to the fire spotted the car containing the mother and newborn and sent a fire truck which took the pair to another location. The fire grew to 1,000 square metres and was extinguished without any injury to firefighters, the Forest Service said.

Deadly Attacks Hit Egypt’s Sinai

At least 35 people have been killed in ongoing attacks on several military checkpoints and police stations in Egypt’s northern Sinai, security sources and witnesses have told Al Jazeera.

About 70 fighters of a group calling itself the Province of Sinaisimultaneously attacked several targets in the area on Wednesday, the sources said. At least 22 of the fighters were killed and three of their vehicles were destroyed, the sources added.
Egypt’s air force deployed fighter jets to the region to assist the army in the ongoing battle, Al Jazeera has learned. There were also reports that Israel has closed down its shared border crossings with Egypt. Sources told Al Jazeera that all Egyptian security forces at two checkpoints at Sheikh Zuweid were killed.
The mortuary in El-Arish received at least 35 bodies, Egyptian security sources said, adding that at least 11 soldiers were among the dead. However, local media reports suggested the death toll of the attacks could be much higher. The Egyptian daily Al Ahram reported that there had been no official death toll because ambulances had trouble reaching the injured and killed for fear of getting caught in the crossfire.

Israel Arrests 40 Hamas Members In West Bank

Israel has arrested 40 Hamas members in the Nablus area who it claims were plotting attacks against it. The Hamas group’s leaders were working to renew Hamas activity in the West Bank, the Israeli security agency Shin Bet told the Jerusalem Post.

The arrests reportedly took place over the past few months and include senior Hamas members and former prisoners held by Israel. The people arrested included Ranem Tufik Tzalah Salameh, 49, a senior Hamas official in Nablus and Ahmed Tufik Yusef Tzalhah, 42, who was said to be responsible for communication with Hamas officials abroad. The suspects also included six men who were reportedly placed in charge of Hamas operations in separate villages outside Nablus.
Hamas dismissed the accusations against its members, saying Israel was just trying to sabotage its
relationship with other Arab powers. Shin Bet said the detainees would be indicted in an Israeli military court soon. There was no information on how the Hamas suspects might plead in court. Hamas has been the democratically-elected ruler of the Palestinian territory of Gaza since 2007.
Until recently, Hamas took part in the Palestinian unity government formed in 2014 that involved various Palestinian factions, including the West Bank’s rulers Fatah. The government disbanded earlier this month after it emerged that Hamas had held separate indirect talks with Israel.

Syrian Rebels Filmed Shooting Islamic State Militants

_83980524_83980395
A hardline Islamist rebel group in Syria has released a video showing its fighters shooting dead a group of alleged Islamic State (IS) militants. Reversing the imagery of beheadings by the jihadist group, Jaysh al-Islam members wearing orange outfits are seen killing 18 men dressed in black. BBC was there:

The video says they are being shot in revenge for the recent beheading of three Jaysh al-Islam fighters. The Saudi-backed group also accuses IS of being allied to Syria’s government. Eighteen months of fierce fighting between IS and rebel groups, who have denounced the jihadists’ brutal tactics and mistreatment of civilian opposition supporters, have left thousands dead.
Led by the former imprisoned Salafist activist Zahran Alloush, Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam) has been battling IS in the Ghouta agricultural belt around Damascus. The 20-minute video published on Jaysh al-Islam’s website on Tuesday mimics those produced by IS to announce the killing of government soldiers and Western hostages.
It includes similarly sectarian language, with IS members accused of betraying their fellow Sunni Muslims and allying themselves with “enemy Shia” and “Nusayris”, a derogatory term for the heterodox Alawite sect to which President Bashar al-Assad belongs.

French Soldiers Suspended Over Burkina Faso Child s*x Claims

KJ
France has suspended two of its soldiers over allegations they sexually abused children in Burkina Faso. One of the alleged victims was a five-year-old girl whose father found a camera containing images of his daughter being sexually abused, report AFP news agency.

It comes after another abuse scandal involving French soldiers. A leaked UN report claimed 16 French peacekeepers abused children in the Central African Republic. “This is an army that confronts [such accusations] head on,” the army’s chief of staff, General Jean-Pierre Bosser told AFP news agency.
French military police are travelling to the country to investigate, alongside the local police. The French army has come under criticism for being slow to react to previous child abuse claims in Central African Republic. There have been a number of s*x scandals involving UN peacekeepers recently, with one UN report saying the peacekeepers regularly barter goods for s*x with people.
About 3,000 French soldiers are stationed in five countries in the region – Mali, Chad, Mauritania and Niger as well as Burkina Faso – in an anti-terrorism operation and the UN currently has about 125,000 peacekeepers deployed in a number of countries around the world.

Saudi Arabia’s billionaire Prince, Alwaleed bin Talal has pledged his entire $32bn fortune to charitable projects over the coming years. The prince said in a statement that the “philanthropic pledge will help build bridges to foster cultural understanding, develop communities, empower women, enable youth, provide vital disaster relief and create a more tolerant and accepting world.” Aljazeera has more:

The donation “will be allocated according to a well-devised plan throughout the coming years”, he said, but stressed there was no time limit for the donation to be spent. Alwaleed said he would head a board of trustees tasked with spending the funds, adding the pledge would still be used after his death “for humanitarian projects and initiatives”.
At a press conference, he said his pledge was modelled on The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the US. In addition to media investments, Kingdom Holding has interests ranging from the Euro Disney theme park to Four Seasons hotels and Citigroup.
He is constructing a tower in the Red Sea city of Jeddah which is to rise more than one kilometre to be the world’s tallest building. Earlier this year, Alwaleed opened a pan-Arab news channel in Bahrain but authorities there shut the station after less than 24 hours on air and a new home is being sought.
