Ighalo Brace Seals Successive Wins for Watford

Odion Ighalo scored twice for Watford as they secured their first away win of the season at Newcastle United.

Troy Deeney provided a couple of assists for the Nigeria international to help the Hornets seize first-half initiatives at St. James’ Park – the third time they have maintained a two-goal or more lead into the break in the Premier League and the very first away from Vicarage Road.

Daryl Janmaat pulled one back for the hosts, who despite rallying in the second half and finally snapping their barren run in 454 minutes of league action, could not salvage a point.

Ighalo has now scored four goals this season after six rounds of matches and also has 20 in his last 24 matches. Watford broke out in blistering pace and with clear sense of purpose, racing into 1-0 lead within ten minutes when Ighalo slotted his low strike into the bottom corner from close range.
The striker later beat the offside trap to latch on to a slick Deeeney pass before calmly sliding the ball into the net.
A one-two between Moussa Sissoko and Janmaat culminated with the Dutch right-back slotting home the former’s return pass heading into the closing half-hour but that was as best as it could get for Steve McClaren’s men.
Watford have now secured their second successive win this season and have nine points from six games, with their only defeat coming away to leaders Manchester City.
The Magpies are winless in all six matches this season, including defeats to Swansea, Arsenal and West Ham.
