Oyegun bars NWC members, state APCs from speaking for party

John Odigie Oyegun, APC National Chairman
The national chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has barred all members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, and spokespersons of the party in the states, from issuing statements on behalf of the party at national level.

Mr. Oyegun, who issued a statement announcing the ban on Friday, said the measure became necessary because he has realised that some “unauthorized persons have recently been issuing statements on behalf of the party”.
A member of the NWC, Timi Frank, had recently issued statements on behalf of the party.
Mr. Oyegun said issuing unauthorised statements was “totally wrong and unacceptable as only the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary can speak for the party on national issues”.
The APC chairman said any member of the NWC or the party generally who wishes to speak on behalf of the party should “expressly” clear such statement with him.
He also said all state publicity secretaries of the party should henceforth “restrict their statements to issues concerning their various states”.
“It is expected that all concerned will adhere strictly to this guideline,” he said.
