The
All Progressives Congress, Rivers State chapter, has explained that the
N300 billion libel suit instituted by immediate past governor of the
state, Rotimi Amaechi, against the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, in the state, Felix Obuah, is to set the records straight in
view of allegations of embezzlement against Amaechi.
The party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris
Finebone, said, “It has come as a surprise to the Rivers State APC that
Obuah should be issuing a press release through his Special Adviser on
Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, alluding to a threat of litigation by
Amaechi, even after it has been widely published in the local and
national media that the former governor had instituted a N300 billion
libel suit against Obuah, PDP and others.
“It is indeed hilarious that an action already taken and reported in
national print and electronic media should be appearing like apparition
to Obuah and Jerry Needam, as threat of litigation.
“The APC would be magnanimous enough to repeat for their benefit that
Amaechi has filed a suit at an Abuja High Court against the state
chapter of the PDP, its chairman, Obuah, and two others, over
allegations of foreign accounts ownership and embezzlement against him.
“The former governor is seeking from the party and its officials, N300
billion for general damages done to him and defamation of his character,
reputation and person. If this reality has resulted to some
hallucination on the part of Obuah and his people, it would be in their
interest to wake from their slumber, have a discussion with their legal
team and face the stark reality that now stares them in the face.
Indeed, they should be getting ready to have their day in court”.
