The coaltion has won a motion of confidence in itself and the Attorney General.
The Dáil voted 94 to 52 on the Government's own motion which was in response to Fianna Fáil putting down a motion of no confidence in Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the wake of the Fennelly report.
Micheál Martin repeated his claim the Taoiseach sacked former garda commissioner Martin Callinan, despite Enda Kenny calling on him to withdraw such remarks.
Independent TD Clare Daly was surprised so many in government offered confidence in the Attorney General given what the report says about Máire Whelan.
She told Government TDs in the Dáil: "He says that she substantially modified her evidence months after she was asked to give that evidence in the first place.
"(He says) that she made no effort to contact the Minister for Justice or the Garda Commissioner, and you have the neck to come in here and ask us to have confidence in that Attorney General.
"And we have no more confidence in her than we do in you."
